Background

As an established high school with 900 pupils based in Cardiff, Cantonian was looking to develop a people support unit (PSU) adjacent to the main building. The idea was to turn what was previously the design technology room into a communal area with full IT capability to support the school. As a result Pinnacle Telecom was commissioned for the project with an expectation to turn it around in 8 weeks. The project involved all IT network, electrics and equipment installation.

Solution

Although challenging timescales, the need for the 8 extension PSU to be connected to the main building bought its difficulties, especially in terms of labour intensity and cost. Pinnacle therefore suggested a Mitel system to run in the PSU unit and connected via ISDN to the telephone system in the school. This not only supported both systems in terms of maintenance but also in keeping with budget expectations. A further suggestion made by Pinnacle was then to migrate the old to the new to future proof both buildings and which supported collaborative communications.

Impact and Results

As a result of the solution provided by Pinnacle Telecom, Cantonian High School were able to stay online with no interruptions, continued connectivity to make calls but most importantly future proof the communications for scalability and maintenance. The diligent project management also enabled the school to meet with their contractual obligations.
